The various Colleges, Institutes and Faculties in our University help to foster an interdisciplinary approach to different areas of study and enhance the discouragement of the traditional claim for exclusivity and superiority by each discipline. By so doing a healthy interdisciplinary contribution to studies for the promotion of the life of man on earth is also facilitated.
In order to help our outstanding students face the challenges of our contemporary world, all are invited to make contribution for the realization of the enormous and onerous vision of the Madonna University.
Madonna University was brought into being by the admirable effort of Very Rev. Fr. Prof. EMP. Edeh CSSP OFR. in a bid to salvage the gross decay of the then Education and Morals in the Nigerian Society; especially in schools. The Founder sought to combine provision of holistic education at affordable cost to the benefit of all, rich and poor alike, with sound moral formation of character building. He appreciated that without these any form of education can be turned into a formidable instrument of destruction of the human person.
Madonna University is the first private University in Nigeria and the first Catholic University in Nigeria. Enjoying both Stately and Ecclesiastical approval, it strives to revive in her community the age-long tradition of Catholic Education and the exacting demand of our contemporary society for sound education en-rooted in salubrious life-promoting morality.
The core identity of every member of the University Community finds its meaning on the Motto: “Dignitas Scientiae et Moralis” – “Decency in Academics and Morals”. This dictum is not meant to be a mere paper proclamation of good intentions, but a guiding philosophy of its entire University life. It is also the responsibility of every staff and student to embrace, respect and promote it.
