The study compares the dermatoglyphic patterns of autistic and Down’s syndrome subjects in Nigeria. The results revealed significant difference between dermatoglyphics of Down’s syndrome and autism on all the parameters studied. Therefore the study recommends dermatoglyphics as a diagnostic tool in the early screening of Down’s syndrome and autistic patients in Nigeria.

The research was carried out to evaluate the palmar and plantar dermatoglyphic patterns in Nigerian autistic subjects. From the study, it was found out that the palmar dermatoglyphics showed significant difference between the male and female autistic subjects while the plantar dermatoglyphics did not show any significant difference. therefore the study has shown that dermatoglyphics of the palm can be helpful in the diagnosis of autistic subjects in Nigeria.
