The principal objective of the faculty of engineering is to train students who will be capable of meeting the challenges of the sustained technological development in Nigeria. The faculty emphasize a sound knowledge of engineering principles coupled with a high practical and innovative ability to shoulder a broader spectrum of professional engineering responsibilities. To this end, the courses offered in this faculty is designed to provide the educational training and skills which are considered necessary for understanding, planning, developing, designing, operating and maintaining the various processes and systems involved in technology. The faculty also encourage research and development work by both staff and student.

• Chemical Engineering

• Civil Engineering

• Computer Engineering

• Electrical/Electronic

• Food Science and Technology

• Mechanical Engineering

• Petroleum Engineering

• Emphasis on basic education and the acquisition of specialized knowledge.

• Development of students' imagination and the ability to explore problems.

• Basic education in Information Technology and the ability to put it to practical use.

• Cultivation of technical skills for use in environmental protection.

• Basic and applied research in cutting-edge technology. Establishment of an international research base.

• Active pursuit of cooperation between academic, business and government for the betterment of society.

The Engineering and Technology programmes of the Faculty will extend to cover a 5¬year period for students admitted into the University through JAMB entrance examination and a four-year period for those admitted by direct entry through JAMB. The first and second years will consist mainly of common courses which are same for all Departments in the Faculty. Specialization commences in the third year of the 5¬year programme and second year in the 4-year programme and continues in the subsequent years of the programmes.

The first semester of the 4th year of the 5-year programme (the 3rd year of the 4-year programme) and the long vacation following the 4th year and 3rd year of the 5-year and 4-year programmes respectively will be devoted to supervised industrial training which is an essential requirement for the B.Eng., and B.Sc. FST degrees.

Candidates for the 5-year programme in any engineering and Technology department normally seek admission through the University Matriculation Examination (UME) organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Such candidates should possess five credit passes obtained in not more than two sittings of the senior school Certificate Examination (SSCE) or the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Examination or their equivalents. For the Engineering programmes the five credits must include Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. A Pass grade in English Language and an acceptable pass in JME are required. For the Food Science and Technology Programme Credit passes in English Language and Biology are required in addition to Math, Physics and Chemistry.

Candidates for the 4-year programme should in addition to the ordinary requirements for the 5-year programme be in possession of some acceptable advanced qualification such as the Higher School Certificate or the GCE Advanced Level in appropriate subjects - Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (and Biology for PST candidates) Holders of suitable engineering and Technology diploma at the national or higher national level may be considered on the merit of each individual case. In all cases, however, emphasis will be placed on suitable basic qualifications in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (and Biology for FST candidates).

All the departments in the faculty of Engineering have been accredited.

Courses for the first two Years in the Faculty are the same for all Departments. Thereafter, Students move into their areas of specialization. For more detail visit individual department pages through the slides above.
